Take in art, history, architecture, culture, and natural beauty during your time on this Windward Island of the Lesser Antilles in the West Indies. You will go to the authentic pottery village in Les Trois Ilets. Located on a former Jesuit Monastery you will enjoy 30 minutes with a few local artists at their workshops. You might want to look at the crafts, they are incredibly beautiful and maybe you pick up a great souvenir to take back home. You cannot have had the full experience of Martinique without sampling their famous rum! At Trois Rivieres Distillery, you will learn about their special white and aged vintage rums that have been on the market since 1976. Enjoy a sample and bottles are available to purchase of your favorite! There are also coconut products available for you purchase. Re-board the transportation to the third stop. You will head to Cap 110, a memorial erected in memory of slavery. This Memorial consists of 15 busts arranged triangularly, to represent the slavery trade triangle between The Americas, Europe and Africa.  Then, you will be on your way to a viewpoint overlooking Diamond Rock. The island reflects the light in such a way that it appears to be a giant precious stone, making it a wonderful photographic opportunity. Do not forget your camera! After you have shot your photos, you will go to Les Anses d’Arlet, a village in a tranquil cove that will welcome you for your beach break. Here you may view the recently renovated bell tower of the church that is situated directly in front of the beach. Alternatively, you may choose to sunbathe on the fine white-sand beach, swim or even snorkel! You will have the chance to see many colorful fish and sea turtles.

Bridgetown: Barbados Island Tour with Transfer to Windstar Hotel
Your tour will begin with a leisurely drive along the Gold Coast, home to many wealthy residents, and will take you to the stunning area of Bathsheba.  This is where the Atlantic surf pounds the coastline and it is a famous spot for international and local surfing competitions.  A walk on the beach is a must. Heading into the hills, you will arrive at St. John’s Church. There are stunning views from the churchyard   - a perfect photo opportunity.  The church contains an interesting sculpture depicting the Madonna and Child with the infant St. John. The graveyard contains the tomb of Ferdinand Paleologus, a descendant of the Byzantine Imperial family.  The present building was constructed in 1836, and the pulpit is constructed from six different kinds of wood: ebony, locust, Barbados mahogany, manchineel, oak and pine. Through sleepy country villages and sugar cane fields, you will make your way to Sunbury House dating back to 1650. The house was destroyed by fire in 1995, and was gracefully restored and re-opened in 1996. It possesses one of the country's superior collections of antiques. The cellar houses a unique collection of antique carriages, the largest collection in the Caribbean, as well as many items used in the domestic life of the plantation. It also houses a very old collection of optical machinery and sight testing equipment, some of the first to come to the West Indies including the first lens grinding plant.  Enjoy a light deli-style lunch with a complimentary rum or fruit punch.  A short drive will take you to your Windstar Hotel.

Bridgetown: Beautiful Barbados
Prepare to embark on a journey that will take you to some of Barbados’s most beautiful and important historical sites. Journey through the rolling hills of the countryside on a 30-minute drive to Gun Hill Signal Station with a magnificent and captivating view of the island!  Built in 1818, the signal station was beautifully restored and landscaped by the Barbados National Trust and now houses a collection of military memorabilia. An officer at the signal station carved the statue of the lion on the hillside below, out of a single piece of rock in 1868. Continue to St. John's Parish Church, perched on a cliff, 800 feet above sea level, overlooking coastal St. John and the Atlantic Ocean. The present building was constructed in 1836, after the hurricane of 1831 destroyed the one built in 1660. The pulpit is constructed from six different kinds of wood: ebony, locust, Barbados mahogany, manchineel, oak and pine. The church also contains an interesting sculpture depicting the Madonna and Child with the infant St. John. The graveyard contains the tomb of Ferdinand Paleologus, a descendent of the Byzantine Imperial family, who died in Barbados in 1678 after being a resident for over 20 years. Located near the center of the island, Highland Adventure Centre sits in the parish of St. Thomas, at an elevation of more than 1,000 feet above sea level. From here the view of the East Coast is truly breathtaking! The pounding Atlantic surf in the distance, contrasts with the unspoiled beauty of nearby Mount Hillaby, which at 1,138 feet above sea level, is the highest point on the island. You get the feeling that you're sitting on top of the world.  Your tour returns to the port by heading westwards, across the northern part of the island, to Holetown, where a monument commemorates the landing in 1605 of the first British settlers, who claimed the island ‘in the name of James I of England.’ Continuing southwards, you will drive along the West Coast, where the clear sea gently kisses some of the best beaches in the Caribbean and many of the ‘rich and famous’ have their ‘getaways.’ This section of the island is often referred to as the ‘Gold Coast,’ because of the number of very wealthy people who have come to live here over the years. It also boasts some of the finest hotels and restaurants.

Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Rum or fruit punch will be served at the Highland Centre
