La Paz, Snorkeling at Balandra Beach
Enjoy the sea breezes as you travel past Pichilingue Beach on the way to San Rafaelito Island. With a low-depth reef, San Rafaelito Bay is a great spot to snorkel. The calm, clear water has a visibility of up to 30 feet and sea lions love to frolic nearby. Home to over 4,000 different marine species, San Rafaelito also offers a magnificent powdery soft, white-sand beach, numerous reefs and underwater rock formations. Some of the aquatic life you'll encounter during snorkeling could include schools of speckled blue and yellow Cortez angelfish and neon-bright queen angelfish, moray eels, coral heads and of course, sea lions. Then, you'll head over to Balandra Bay, where you'll find eight inlets, a coral reef and beautiful white-sand beaches framed by purple and ochre cliffs. But Balandra is more famous for its unusual rock formation known as Mushroom Rock, or El Hongo, as it's called by the locals. After a snack and refreshments, you can relax on the white-sand beach, gaze out at the vivid turquoise water, take a hike in the low mountains, or snorkel in the salt lagoon teeming with thousands of fish. You'll find that the water is so shallow here that you can walk across to the volcanic cliffs that run down to the shore or to the mangroves that surround the bay. When your exciting adventure comes to an end, you'll return to the boat for a restful ride back to the pier.

La Paz, Whale Shark Tour
Once plentiful off the coast of Mexico, as well at the waters of the world's oceans, the whale sharks are now an endangered species and protected under international and Mexican law. This excursion will give you the wonderful opportunity to see these rare creatures up close in their natural environment. From early winter until late spring whale sharks are quite common in these waters due to the rich supply of plankton, krill, and small fish, and every year they return to the bay of La Paz. Cruise out on a boat into the calm waters of La Paz Bay, where you will look out for whale sharks. Once a whale shark is spotted, you'll don your mask and enter the water near one of these gentle giants. Whale sharks are the world's largest species of fish and can reach lengths of nearly 40 feet and can weigh in as much as 79,000 pounds. Let the animal come to you, just try to swim beside it and not make physical contact. When it realizes that you're not a threat then it will swim closer to you but give it plenty of room to maneuver. Remember, even though it swims slowly and gracefully, it's still a large animal living in the wild, giving the fish distance also provides you some safety, too. At the end of this awesome experience you'll climb back aboard and relax with a refreshing snack. Then, you'll return to your ship in awe of one of nature's most amazing creations with stories to tell your family and friends.

Please note: This tour is not suitable for guests with neck or back problems nor pregnant women. Wear your swimsuit, bring a towel, sunscreen, camera and change of clothes, and extra money (USD or MXN). Tour includes water, soda and a little snack. Since this activity is in the open water the spotting of the whale sharks cannot be guaranteed.  Snorkeling with them depends on weather conditions and government restrictions
