The Isle of Man is the home of motorcycle racing and as such draws fans of the sport from all over the world. If you have been nervous about riding motorbikes but have always wanted to just have a go, at least once, this tour will let you fulfill this dream as passengers on a specially designed 3-seater Trike. The emphasis of this tour is on enjoyment rather than high speed; though when you are traveling at 30 mph it will feel more like 60 mph on the Trike when the wind is blowing through your hair! You will experience the course that the world’s most daring riders have experienced, though you will not reach the 200 mph+ that they do. You will travel through some very pretty towns and villages, around tight twisty roads, over the renowned Ballaugh Bridge before riding over the spectacular Mountain area. You will have a short stop at the Creg-ny-Baa, before returning to Douglas.

Depart your yacht this morning and travel via the “Plains of Heaven,” the magnificently scenic elevated highway that bisects the island running east to west, and the Southern Hills which offer panoramic views of the south of the island down to Cregnaesh where you will pause for photographs. Cregnaesh is the oldest settlement on the Isle of Man, a hamlet of white-washed, stone-walled thatched cottages, just as they were in 1900. Travel to The Sound, the most southerly point of the Island and one of the most scenic places in the British Isles. With excellent views of The Sound and the Calf of Man Nature Reserve, enjoy the sights and sounds of the flourishing Manx ecosystem with its abundance of wildlife and natural wonders. Often seals can be spotted basking on the rocky Kitterland (islet in The Sound) and sometimes dolphins and basking sharks can be seen. Look across to the Calf of Man, a renowned bird sanctuary where many migrating birds stop off for a rest on their journey to or from warmer climates. The visitor centre at The Sound Café provides a wide range of information about the local wildlife and the many wrecks of sunken ships that lie off the shore. Afterwards return to your yacht via the legendary “Fairy Bridge.” Don’t forget to say Laa Mie (good day) to the fairies!

Departing the port take a scenic drive out of Douglas and head across the island towards Peel. Also known as “Sunset City,” the striking ruins of Peel Castle overlook the small fishing port with its quaint narrow streets and picturesque harbor. Continue your journey passing through the beautiful scenery of the island, and even travel across part of the famous TT-Races track as you head towards Laxey Station. Board a vintage carriage on the Snaefell Mountain Railway, the only electric mountain railway in the British Isles and in service since 1895. This unique Victorian railway winds its way to the top of Snaefell, the only mountain on the Island. During your ascent take in the breathtaking views of the island’s largest glacial valley, the beautiful Sulby Reservoir, spectacular landscapes of the north of the island over Tholt-y-Will Glen to the sandy plains of Jurby, the cliffs of Bride and on to the Point of Ayre. At the summit of the Snaefell Mountain 621 m (2,036 feet), on a clear day, the ‘Seven Kingdoms’ – England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man and Heaven and the sea, can be seen. Re board the Snaefell Mountain Railway to descend to the Bungalow (a famous part of the TT Course) and meet your coach for the return journey to Douglas.

This is one of the most beautiful walks on the island, renowned for its stunning coastal scenery, bird life and archaeological remains. Your tour will begin with a 30-minute drive by coach via the famous Fairy Bridge, where according to legend, you should greet ‘the little people’ to ensure a good journey. You will arrive at Castletown, the former capital of the Isle of Man. After a short stop and comfort break at Castletown, your walk will begin following part of the ‘Raad ny Foillan’ (the Way of the Gull). This is the Isle of Man’s long distance coastal footpath around Scarlett Head and here you will have the opportunity to see sea birds, plants, limestone outcrops and volcanic rocks against a backdrop of stunning scenery. This part of the exposed southern coast has an abundance of historic sites. There are traces of ancient forts, chapels, old farms, a WWII radar station and a now disused, flooded quarry which once supplied stone for the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The historic highlights of the walk are at Chapel Hill, Balladoole. Here you will see a Bronze Age burial site, an Iron Age hillfort, a Viking ship burial site and Keeill Vael (St Michael’s Chapel) which has extensive views over the south of the Island and the Iron Age and Norse promontory fort at Close ny Chollagh. At the conclusion of your walk, rejoin the coach and return to Castletown and then on to Douglas via a route with views over ‘the Plains of Heaven’ across the central valley and to the northern hills.

Please note: The route involves crossing several stiles with up to 9 steep wooden steps on both sides and walking on a mix of coastal grassland and farm tracks. This is a coastal location exposed to the weather. Uneven surfaces with occasional rabbit holes which can be slippery when wet and some areas can be muddy. Guests MUST bring warm, waterproof clothing appropriate to the weather on the day, carry water and wear sturdy footwear (boots or trainers / sneakers) with thick tread and ankle support. Walking poles may be helpful, but this route is not suitable for users of wheelchairs, walking sticks or other walking aids.This is a walking tour and is not suitable for guests with limited walking or walking aids.

Departing from the pier, take a scenic drive to Castletown and enjoy a visit to the magnificent Castle Rushen which stands alongside the harbor. Castle Rushen is one of the best examples of a medieval castle in Europe and was the former seat of the Kings and Lords of Mann, with the Castle’s oldest part dating back to the time of Magnus, the last Norse King of Mann, who died here in 1266. The exact date when the Castle was built is unknown, though it is believed to be around 1200. Today, spectacular displays illustrate the Castle at various times in history, with figures in period costume, historical furnishings, wall hangings and medieval speech bringing the Castle's medieval and 17th century periods to life. Following your visit of the Castle, time permitting, you will enjoy some free time before re-joining your coach for the short transfer to Castletown station. Board the vintage steam train for a delightful and traditional journey to Douglas. Dating from 1874, the Isle of Man Steam Railway is the Island’s oldest Victorian rail impressive Victorian terminus in Douglas and re-join your coach for the short transfer back to the pier.

After tendering ashore to Portrush, you will board your motor coach and in the company of your local guide head off along the Antrim Coast. Your first stop will be at Dunluce Castle for an inside visit. Most of the fortifications date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Dunluce Castle is one of the most extensive ruins in Northern Ireland. The castle is dramatically surrounded by terrifyingly steep drops on either side. Next, you will visit the Giants’ Causeway, where for centuries, visitors have marveled at its majesty and mystery. The unique rock formations have, for millions of years, stood as a natural rampart against the unbridled ferocity of the Atlantic storms. To stroll the Giants’ Causeway is to voyage back in time. Your imagination will travel along stepping-stones that lead to either the creative turbulence of a bygone volcanic age or into the myths and legends of the past. Enjoy the audio-visual presentation and causeway exhibition at the visitor center before beginning the 30-minute walk to the causeway itself. An audio guide will provide commentary as you explore the rocks on your own. Rejoin your motor coach for the return drive to Portrush and your ship waiting in the bay.

Journey by motor coach to Londonderry. With its history revered and its charm and vivacity still intact after “the Troubles,” Londonderry makes for an interesting visit. Begin your city discovery with a photo stop at St. Columb’s Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece constructed in the early 17th century.You will appreciate the church’s fine exterior, including the spire with 13 bells, before continuing your guided Londonderry introduction by foot. Walk along the city walls, hearing informative commentary as you go. From the top of the walls you will see the Bogside, the Catholic area with the famous mural that announces, “You are now entering free Derry.” Reaching Union Hall Place, enjoy a visit to the Tower Museum, where you will be engaged by “The Story of Derry,” an exhibit that acquaints you with the history of the city. Depart from the pier in Portrush and drive to Belfast City, the capital of Northern Ireland. Belfast or 'Hibernian Rio' as one writer once called it. You will visit the recently constructed Titanic Belfast. Opened in April 2012, the new signature building tells the story of Titanic. It contains 9 galleries offering a variety of interpretative materials and media. A high point will be a ride though the Titanic under construction. The adventure will begin the moment you walk through the door and into the building's giant atrium surrounded by the four high impact “hull” shaped sections which house the experience. The stories of passengers, crew and the heroes of the day will be told in an exciting way. At the conclusion, you will visit the wreck at her resting place on the floor of the North Atlantic. Today’s tour will take you through the lovely scenery of the island of Mull to the small ferry port of Craignure. You will continue on from there across the south end of Mull to the hamlet of Fionnphort. You will leave your coach here to take the little foot ferry over to the idyllic island of Iona. Iona is steeped in Christian history and is regarded as the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland with the arrival of St. Columba in 563 A.D. and the founding of the abbey. Over a century ago, the abbey and monastic buildings were restored and, in 1938, the Iona community was founded to continue the tradition of worship in the abbey through daily services and teaching. Today, Iona remains a place of pilgrimage and spirituality. Tour the abbey with your guide and see the cloisters, graveyard, the burial site of numerous early Scottish, Irish, and French kings as well as seeing the impressive collection of over 180 medieval carved stones and crosses. Enjoy plenty of free time here to soak up the atmosphere of the abbey, as well as to explore the lovely little shops and cafes of the village, before taking the ferry back to Fionnphort, and the coach returning through Mull back to Tobermory once more.

Standing proudly on a cliff top guarding the Sound of Mull, Duart Castle enjoys one of the most spectacular positions on the west coast of Scotland. The Hebrides are famed all over the world for their precious, hand woven fabrics. This unique tour will give you the opportunity to experience the traditional craft. At Ardalanish Farm & Mill you will gain an insight into the making of this popular cloth, all the way from sheep to shop. From Tobermory, you will board your coach to the typical southern Mull village of Bunessan. From here, head along a narrow and more deserted route towards the remote and spectacularly scenic Ardalanish Bay. Here you will visit the Isle of Mull Weavers at Ardalanish Farm. Upon arrival, your group will be divided up into smaller groups (depending on numbers) to enjoy the different areas and outbuildings of the farm. In the course of a guided tour of the mill you can admire the old, traditional, Victorian power looms and see how this wonderful, coarse fabric is woven, inch by inch. Transferring to other parts of the farm, you will enjoy a meet-and-greet with the purveyors of the famed Hebridean wool, the black Hebridean sheep. There is also the chance for a photo-shoot with the small herd of shaggy, but majestic Highland Cattle, a popular postcard motif all across Scotland. Finally, you will be treated to island hospitality of tea/coffee and biscuits, followed by free time to stroll to the nearby beach, enjoy the beautiful island scenery or simply browse in the upscale shop for that special souvenir that can last for generations.

Eilean Donan is arguably one of the most recognizable castles in the world. Located strategically on a little island where three sea lochs meet in the midst of some of Scotland’s most dramatic scenery it is no wonder that the castle has been featured in many films.You will travel south from Portree past the majestic Cuillin Mountains and cross the iconic and controversial Skye Bridge to the Scottish mainland and on to Eilean Donan. The Castle is named for the 6th century Irish saint who set up the first community on the island.There has been a fortified castle on this site since the 13th century although it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times in its long and turbulent history.The restored castle you will see today was completed in the 1930s. During your visit you will have the opportunity to learn the rich history of the castle and its clansmen and to take in the stunning views.

Please note: The castle is not accessible to wheelchairs. There are three floors of the castle that can be visited and many steps are involved. For those that are not able to tackle the steps a computer-based virtual tour is available in the castle’s visitor centre. There is a gift shop at the castle and free time to shop after the tour. Depart the charming port of Portree via motor coach and drive across the lovely Isle of Skye to its west coast to the castle of Dunvegan, seat of the Clan MacLeod chiefs since the 13th century. One of the greatest and most renowned among the Hebridean strongholds, Dunvegan Castle is the only one to have been continuously owned and occupied by the same family over a period now spanning 8 centuries. Within the castle are priceless heirlooms, some of which have come down through the hands of the Chiefs of MacLeod since medieval times, including such treasures as the Dunvegan Cup, the mysterious Fairy Flag and Rory Mor’s Horn. You will explore the lovely gardens that surround the waterfall known as Rory Mor’s Cascade and enjoy the varied landscape including views of the dramatically beautiful Cuillin Mountains as you return to Portree.

Head north via motor coach from Portree to the Trotternish Peninsula. During your scenic tour you will learn much of the fascinating history of the Isle of Skye and its geography and social history – in particular its crofting history. Passing the curious rock outcrop known as the Old Man of Storr, journey north to Kilt Rock – a dramatic 200-foot-high cliff marked in an almost tartan-like pattern by the rock strata with a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. Enjoy some time here to absorb the scenery and take photographs. Continuing your journey north, you will pass the crofting township of Staffin which overlooks the sandy Staffin Bay and drive around the northern tip of the island, hearing more of the myths and legends of Skye. On arrival at the settlement of Kilmuir you will visit the fascinating Skye Museum of Island Life to learn more of the traditional crofting life. Continue through Uig and back to Portree.

Departing Portree your motor coach will take you on a 30-minute drive through some beautiful coastal and hilly scenery as you head towards “Old Man of Storr” car park on the Trotternish Peninsula. On arrival at the car park, your guide will give a quick safety brief before setting off. This very popular walk will take you for a close look at the massive pinnacle “Old Man of Storr,” one of the Isle of Skye’s iconic landmarks.The walk will be challenging in places but is achievable. En-route your guide will talk about the geography and describe what to expect on the next leg of the walk. As you catch your breath, revel in the fresh air and fabulous vistas; you will have time to get your camera out as snapshots are a must to keep the memories alive. At the top you will see the Islands of Raasay and Rona and beyond to the mainland, looking south, see “Storr Lochs,” Portree Harbour and the magnificent Cuillin Hills (described as the hiker’s dream). On completion of your walk, you will return by coach to Portree.

Please note: This tour will involve walking on some uneven and occasionally muddy footpaths, steep in places and is recommended for experienced hikers. Wear comfortable shoes for hiking, warm layered clothing and bring your camera and bottled water.

This is a wonderful tour for exploring the South Isles of Orkney and sampling some local produce. You will leave Orkney’s biggest island and follow the coast of Scapa Flow on a 30-minute drive to the smaller South Isles. Drive over the first of the Churchill Barriers, built during the Second World War to protect Scapa Flow. You will visit the beautiful, hand-painted Italian Chapel, built by Italian prisoners of war who were interned on this small island during World War Two. The chapel stands as a lasting memorial to peace. You will then continue south across two further Churchill Barriers to the island of Burray and stop for delicious refreshments in the lovely small fishing town of Burray Village for a taster plate of some local produce including Bere Bannocks (local bread) and local farmhouse cheese, and Orkney Fudge Cheesecake. The tour will also include a glass of wine or beer. You will then continue to the Fossil and Heritage Centre. Depart Kirkwall and head into the west of Mainland, Orkney’s largest island. Passing the Standing Stones of Stenness you will stop at the Ring of Brodgar; a huge ceremonial circle of stones dating back almost 5,000 years. You then continue on to the 5000-year-old village of Skara Brae, beautifully interpreted in the visitor center. See the remarkable dwellings revealed from beneath the sand dunes by storms only 150 years ago. From here it is only a 656-foot walk to visit Skaill House, Orkney’s finest manor. Skaill was built by Bishop George Graham in 1620 on the site of a farmstead thought to date to the Norse period. In its 400 year history all 12 of its Lairds have been related and all have contributed to the history and collection in the house. Return to your coach and continue this circular route following the coastline of Scapa Flow, made famous for its role in both World Wars.

Your motor coach will take you on a 75-minute drive to Cawdor Castle; the 14th century home of the Thanes of Cawdor, reputedly Macbeth’s castle and the site of the murder of Duncan. Today it is considered to be one of the Highland’s most romantic stately homes with its fine collection of rare tapestries, portraits, and furniture, and outside its lovely gardens and grounds. You will tour the beautiful rooms of the castle at your leisure with an audio guide that will be provided on entry. In addition, castle stewards will be on hand to answer any of your questions). Afterwards head to the famous Battlefield of Culloden for a brief stop where your guide will give you a description of the battle and you will have a chance to take photos. This is the site of the last battle to be fought on British soil, namely the bloody Battle of Culloden in 1746 between Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Duke of Cumberland. Depart Invergordon to head northwards on a 60-minute drive through the delightful Highland scenery . You will arrive at the lovely town of Dornoch with its attractive sandstone buildings and tiny 13th century cathedral which you will have an opportunity to visit with your guide. There will be a short stop here to explore Dornoch for yourself. Then it’s on to Dunrobin Castle, the ancestral home of the Clan Sutherland. Over the centuries there have been many changes to the castle including a 15th century keep, a 17th century courtyard and in the mid-19th century the castle was remodeled and enlarged. The castle interiors are beautifully appointed and the formal gardens are exceptional. Your tour starts in the fishing port of Lerwick, founded in the 17th century. The center is full of character, especially by the water’s edge where the older buildings are situated. As we drive through the town we will see the Town Hall before turning west to the old town of Scalloway, the original main town and second largest settlement on the island. En route we will pass Clickimin Broch –a defense tower with surrounding structures dating back 2,000 years. On arrival in Scalloway we will stop to visit the now roofless Castle which was built around 1600 by the tyrant Earl Patrick Stewart. He used forced labor to build his residence and was executed in Edinburgh in 1615. You will then visit the fascinating local museum, which has a special display devoted to the Shetland Bus, boats which traveled between Shetland and Norway helping the Norwegian Resistance movement during World War II. If you prefer, wander along Scalloway’s Main Street and view the waterfront. Leaving Scalloway, you will travel through the Tingwall Valley, pausing for a photo stop to view a small herd of Shetland Ponies.This tour also includes a stop at the Shetland Jewellery Workshop, where the group will get a tour of the workshop to see how the pieces are designed and created.

Please note: Scalloway Museum is wheelchair accessible, Scalloway Castle is not. Scalloway Castle is situated right next door to the museum, so guests will be able to see it however it is covered in scaffolding for the foreseeable future.

Depart through Lerwick, the capital of Shetland, as you begin your trip to the island’s most southerly point. En route, you will pass through the rural townships of Fladdabister and, conditions permitting, pause to admire the view of the magnificent Mousa Broch, the tallest and best preserved broch in the world. You will continue south down the west coast and pass St Ninian’s Isle where the famous Pictish horde of silver dating from the 9th Century was found in 1958. Continue south to visit the remarkable archaeological site of Jarlshof. The site was uncovered by a violent storm in the winter of 1896/7, revealing an extraordinary settlement site embracing at least 5,000 years of human history. The site contains a remarkable sequence of stone structures – late Neolithic houses, a Bronze-Age village, an Iron-Age broch and wheelhouses, several Norse longhouse, a medieval farmstead, and the 16th century laird’s house. Visit the remains of these village settlements with your guide to make the most of your time here. You will then return to Lerwick with your guide telling you more about these islands as we look out for Shetland’s famous ponies on the way back. .

Departing Lerwick, head west to the picturesque harbor village of Hamnavoe on the isle of Burra. After a brief photo stop, continue north towards Girlsta, through the Tingwall Valley with its Norse heritage before arriving at the “Keolka” croft - a beautiful Shetland croft nestled within the rugged heather hills, with stunning views across the water. Here you will enjoy an authentic crofting experience, as well as getting to meet a local crofter and his dogs. David Murray is an active crofter/farmer in north Shetland and is widely known throughout the sheepdog trialling world having qualified for the Scottish National Team, The International Supreme Championship, and the World Sheepdog Trials with his dog Sweep.
Witness working sheepdog demonstrations with a talk on their training, see some of the native, colored Shetland sheep and witness a sheep shearing demonstration (weather dependent), meet Shetland ponies, and enjoy a talk on the typical year in the life of a Shetland crofter. After a short drive, warm up with a delicious traditional lunch of soup and sandwiches in the Herrislea House Hotel. On the way back to Lerwick, hear more of Shetland`s culture and heritage.

Depart through Lerwick, the capital of Shetland as you begin your trip to Burra, one of the smaller Shetland Islands; connected to the mainland by a series of bridges and the island of Trondra. En route there will be a photo stop at Meal Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Shetland. The beach is around 300 yards away from the car park along a boarded walkway. Next, you will arrive at the pony experience, where you will be met by members of the Tait family, who are the local owners and breeders of the ponies. Learn about the 2,000-year-old history of these small horses on the island and how they are bred and used today. Next, you will break out into small groups for an intimate experience with the ponies. You will have the unique opportunity to pet, brush and handle the ponies before leading one of the ponies down to a secluded beach, and have your photo taken with these beautiful animals. After your time here, you will re-board the coach and return to your ship.

The community of Giske consists of four islands. Two of them will be visited on this tour - the Giske and Godøy Islands, which lie further to the west. The tour to the islands will take you via bridges and underwater tunnels, the longest being 2.6 miles (4.2 km). Giske is known as the Saga Island for the fact that the Viking Chieftain Rollo was born here. This island is fairly flat and fertile. On the island you will visit the old stone church dating back to 1150, originally a chapel belonging to the mighty Giske family. From Giske you will continue over to Godøy Island. On the northwestern side of the island you will drive towards the small but picturesque fishing village of Alnes, situated facing the Atlantic Ocean. Take a closer look at the old lighthouse, climb the stairs to the very top and enjoy refreshments at the visitor center. On the way back to the ship visit the viewpoint Mt. This scenic drive will take you all the way inland towards Valldal, where you will leave the fjords behind and make your way into the high mountains of the Romsdals Alps. You will make a stop at Gudbrandsjuvet, an 82-foot high ravine through which the Valldøla River has formed a complex of deep potholes and intricate formations. You will continue your drive into the high mountains of the Troll Road. At the 2,625-foot-high plateau, you will make a short stop to enjoy the magnificent view overlooking the valley. You will have an amazing view of the snowy peaks and the steep waterfall. Descending into the valley along the famous 11 hairpin turns you will follow the river towards Trollstigen Guesthouse where a delicious lunch is awaiting you. Surrounded by beautiful nature you will have enough time to enjoy your lunch before continuing your journey to the Troll Wall. The Troll Wall is the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, measuring over 3,281 feet from its base to the summit of its highest point. At its steepest, the summit ridge overhangs the base of the wall by nearly 164 feet. The ridge is and has been a prestigious goal for rock climbers and its summit was only first climbed in 1965. The Troll Wall is also considered a mecca for base jumpers , but has been made illegal, although some daredevils still attempt the jump after a 5-hour hike from the Trollstigen Plateau. After having admired the steep mountain ridge you will make your way back to Ålesund and the ship following a scenic drive along the Romsdalfjord and through the valleys and villages of the region.

The Rødven Stave Church, now the property of the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments, dates back to 1300 and is still located on its original site. You’ll have the opportunity to discover the unique architecture and atmosphere of this church, which is one of only 30 surviving stave churches in Norway. Your next stop will be Woldstad Farm, where you will be warmly welcomed by your hosts. Woldstad Farm dates back to 1654, and the Woldstad family has owned and run the farm since then. Your hosts will share stories about the local history and entertain you with Norwegian folk songs before you are served a delicious 3-course lunch. Just up from the town center of Åndalsens, you will find a newly built gondola that will take you 2,323 feet (708 meters) above sea level. Your first stop will be in Kollafjørður where you will visit an old Faroese church with a traditional, Faroese turf roof. On our way farther north, we head toward the village of Saksun, tucked away at the end of the road. As you get closer to Saksun, surprising vistas will delight you around each twist in the road. Then, there it is – one of the most distinctive villages in the Faroes. The old farm, Dúvugarðar, is now a national heritage museum, and, together with the outbuildings that belong to the museum, it provides an intimate look into past rural life in the Faroes. The round bay below the farm was at one time a natural harbor. Today, although sand deposits have made its waters shallow and only accessible to small boats at high tide, it is the centerpiece of a spectacular panorama. Ride by coach to the village of Vestmanna. Here, you will board a boat and head out to the famous bird cliffs. The only bridge over the Atlantic, as it is sometimes called, spans the narrow channel of Sundini to connect Eysturoy with the larger island of Streymoy. Because the channel is so narrow, spectacular eddies form at the base of the bridge when the current is running strongly with the tide. You will pass Eiði and cross the mountains to Gjógv. On the way, you are treated to a view of the Giant and the Hag -two very distinctive sea stacks that your imagination will have fun with. You'll also pass the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur (2,983 feet) and see the rather handy Gjógv Gorge which, at 616-feet long, provides a marvelous natural harbor for the local fishing fleet to shelter in. Stop in the village of Gjógv, at the local guesthouse, to enjoy refreshments of coffee and tea with pancakes. The ride back to Tórshavn is via the mountain road and you will stop at the viewpoint overlooking the capital.

This boat tour goes to the beaches of Hornstrandir, one of the most beautiful and remote areas in Iceland. The abandoned village of Hesteyri can only be reached by boat and is therefore a wonderfully unspoiled land where time has stood still for several decades. Your boat ride will afford spectacular sceneries of the fjord and if the weather is clear you’ll catch a glimpse of Drangajökull Glacier and maybe some puffins and arctic terns. On rare occasions whales are seen in the fjords and seals sometime swim alongside the boat. The 70-minute journey will take you to Hesteyri village. This s isolated spit of land is framed with steep cliffs and has two majestic mountains in its background. Until the 1950s Hesteyri had a small and scattered community supported by the industry of whaling and later by a herring processing plant. This visit will give you insights into the isolation and hardships the villagers faced that eventually proved too hard to bear. The villagers made the joint decision to abandon their homes and seek a new life elsewhere. A dozen houses are still maintained as summer residences for the former villagers and their descendants. On this amazing journey around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, we will depart from Grundafjörður pier and head to our first stop, Malarrif Lighthouse. From there, we will drive to Saxhóll, where we will ascend approximately 385 steps for a spectacular view of craters and lava fields, including the Lóndrangabjarg cliffs. Next, we drive to Arnarstapi harbor and take a scenic 50-minute walk through the lava fields to Hellnar. At Hellnar, we will pause to enjoy some packed lunch before continuing to our final location, Rauðfellsgjá Canyon, where we will hike into the canyon. After our hike, we will return to the pier in Grundafjörður, concluding a long, beautiful, and active day exploring the most interesting and unique places of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

This tour offers a hiking experience in the extensive Berserkjahraun Lava Field in the mystical Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Berserkjahraun, which roughly translates to “mad-man lava field” is a place where green moss partly covers ancient black lava rocks surrounded by pyramid-shaped mountains and the sea. The sources of the lava are four prominent scoria craters which erupted at short intervals approximately 4,000 years ago. The lava field is also central to the story of two men which appears in Eyrbyggja Saga. One of them fell in love with the chieftain’s daughter and was promised her hand in marriage on the condition that he build a path through the rugged lava field. The men went “berserk” and completed the task in a remarkably short time. When they finished the chieftain arranged for their murder and had them buried close to the bridle path. Excavations have revealed that, like many of the Icelandic Sagas, the story might have some elements of truth to it. You will hike for about an hour over this interesting terrain.

Embark on an incredible journey around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, starting from Grundafjörður pier. Our first stop is Saxhóll Crater, where you can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Next, we visit Malarif, a small town with a historic lighthouse that played a vital role for Icelandic fishermen for decades. Built in 1917 and rebuilt in 1947, the 20-meter-high lighthouse once guided fishermen navigating the rich waters along the shore. At the time, the nearby farm of Malarrif was one of the most isolated and westernmost farms on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. We then head to Hellnar for a brief photo and comfort stop before continuing to the picturesque fishing village of Arnarstapi. Along the way, we pass the striking volcanic plug of Londrangar, an area steeped in Icelandic sagas and folklore. In Arnarstapi, enjoy a scenic walk along a trail filled with geological wonders and rich birdlife. Our final stop is Rauðfeldsgjá, a stunning Icelandic fissure that hides a stream and a lush green chamber. The hike to the fissure, which takes about 30 minutes from the road, rewards visitors with an extraordinary experience that feels straight out of a fantasy film. Afterward, we return to Grundarfjörður, ending this memorable tour of Iceland’s natural beauty.

This incredible boat tour sails around the unspoiled islands off the shore of the scenic Snaefellsnes Peninsula. You will drive from the pier along the otherworldly landscape to the town of Stykkisholmur where you will board a ferry for your archipelago adventure. You will sail through whirlpool currents past numerous islands with strange but beautiful rock formations and basalt columns. This tour will be a treat for bird watchers as birds nest and breed in the rocks and cliffs and when seen will provide amazing photo opportunities. Among the birds nesting here are puffins, shags, cormorants, kittiwakes, black guillemots, fulmars and other bird species. You may also spot a seal gliding around the boat. The captain will demonstrate how rich in marine life the waters are here as he will haul in a net filled with fresh delicacies. You will have the opportunity to sample the catch right on the boat. You will return to Stykkisholmur where you will have half an hour at your leisure before returning to Grundarfjordur.

This tour will offer a chance to see many of the wonderful highlights of Snaefellsnes Peninsula. You will drive through several small fishing villages that hug the dramatic coast on your way to the famous Snaefellsjokull Glacier. You will stop at Djupalonssandur Beach for a short refreshing walk on the pebbled beach where strange rock formations are found and you can take the strength test on four great rocks weighing from 50 to 340 pounds. After a short drive past the cliffs of Londrangar, you will arrive in the tiny fishing village of Arnarstapi with its many interesting lava formations and an abundance of birdlife. After a walk you will board your coach and head for Budir, famed for its beautiful surroundings of black lava and yellow-sand beach. You will visit the church then continue over Frodarheidi Heath back to Grundarfjordur.
