Departing the pier by motor coach you will begin your sightseeing tour of Lipari. For the next 90 minutes you will make stops at some of the best viewpoints on the island, offering magnificent vistas of the Aeolian Archipelago.  Then it’s off to a local pizzeria, where the owners enthusiastically demonstrate how to make traditional Sicilian pizza. You’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at making your very own pizza, according to your own personal taste.  Finally, you will sit down to enjoy your creation accompanied with wine and Aeolian cookies, before returning to your yacht.

The island of Vulcano, once called Hierò Thermessa is one of the most interesting in the Aeolian archipelago because of the exceptional nature of its landscapes and the variety of its landscapes and the variety of its volcanic phenomena. Dedicated to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and metal working; Homer described the island as the workshop of Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire.  Your tour will begin with a boat trip around the island  with a breathtaking view of the Faraglioni ,Grotta del Cavallo,  and Vulcanello. The only landing place is the Porto di Levante.  Vulcano consists of three old craters. The first, in the south between Monte Aria and Monte Saraceno, has been extinct for centuries; the GranCratere, on the other hand, is still active, the last eruption occurring in 1890. Vulcanello, the third crater, is a promontory on the north eastern tip of the island created almost 2,000 years ago by an eruption. The climb up to the middle crater is particularly interesting and you can reach the top in less than an hour. 

Please note: The hike to the volcano is only recommended for fit people as a lot of uphill walking is involved. Wear walking shoes, bring a change of clothes and bottled water.

          

 

 

 

Lipari is the largest of the seven Aeolian Islands and is well known not only for its mythological connections, but most of all for its natural beauty. Arriving at Marina Corta, you will board your coach and proceed on a panoramic tour of the island. Two beaches, Marina Lunga and Marina Corta, frame the town of Lipari, which is encircled by 13th -14th  century walls and dominated by a 16th century Norman castle. Nearby there is an impressive view of the bay. Between the islands of Lipari and Vulcano, in the Bocche di Vulcano, you will see picturesque rocks resembling Druidical stones, among them the Pietralunga, a basalt nearly 240 feet (72m) high. After a brief stop at Canneto Village, you will continue with your drive noting where the road is crossed by red and black veins of obsidian. You’ll then return to the landing area or you may choose to remain in town to explore on your own until the last tender departure.

Offshore is Galli Island, legendary home of Sirens. Positano town is embroidered with narrow lanes and steps, and is dominated by the splendid dome of Santa Maria Assunta covered in polychrome majolica. Piazzetta and cafés are crowded by people relaxing after climbing the hundreds of steps up the hillside (not compulsory). Enjoy time at leisure for shopping and sit for a  drink at a café.  Continue your ride to Amalfi, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Between 839 and around 1200, Amalfi was the capital of the Maritime Republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean directly competing with Pisa, Venice, and Genoa. After a visit to the Cloister of Paradise, built between 1266 and 1268, with its white columns and pointed arches that reflects a clear influence of the Arab domination, you will have some free time for shopping or exploring around. Ride back to Sorrento by private speedboat.

This small town is wonderfully located over steep white cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the limestone mountains. For 2000 years visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and the fragrances of orange and lemon gardens. Enjoy a guided visit of the old town, stroll along the colorful streets and admire the beautiful churches, the most famous the Cathedral, in Romanesque style dedicated to the Saints Giacomo and Filippo and built during the 15th  century. The beautiful peninsula of Cap Corse is a ribbon of sheer coast along a fault line, suspended at an altitude of 3,280 feet. Between two seas. The prelude to the beauties of Cap Corse will be found along the road called the Cliff Road which, starting you will journey on  from Bastia and it will a matchless view over the Tuscan Archipelago.  A 30-minute ride will take you to the small and colorful fishing port of Erbalunga  where you will have time to spend before re-boarding your motor coach for the 30-minute to Luri for another short stop.  Then on for a 60-minute drive to the marine of Pino and the sheer cliff of Nonza with its Genovese tower and a boundless grey beach — offering astonishing landscapes.

Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372).  They needed a city and port which could assure the contact between their “Homeland” and their “colony”. Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock,  easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastia. The numerous religious buildings dotted all over the island bear witness to the profound religious fervor of its inhabitants and their attachment to the Catholic faith. Despite this, the collective consciousness remains steeped in many pagan traditions,with relics of ancient beliefs. The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. This walking tour will take you to some purportedly haunted sites, and give you an overview of the superstitions and local legends which still hold sway.

Your journey from Bastia will lead inland to Oletta – a small village terraced up the hillside, and from where there is a lovely view of Saint Florent and over  the countryside of olive groves, vineyards, and pastures – small squares of property delimited by dry stone walls. Then the road climbs up to the San Stefano Pass, through chestnut and olive groves, and from there is a spectacular panorama down to the east coast and the Biguglia “étang” (pool) and in the other direction, across the Agriates Desert and the sea at Saint Florent.  You will climb a sinuous, narrow road, up to the Teghime Pass, where at an altitude of 1,759 feet ( 536M), the views are completely different in each direction. To the West: over extensive vineyards right to the gulf of Saint Florent. To the South: across mountains and valleys towards the chestnut forests of the Castagniccia. The East: past Bastia and the sea leading to Italy. Finally North: the mountainous backbone of the Cap Corse. The road turns and twists its way down to Patrimonio, offering picturesque views background. Patrimonio village is dominated by its church and high steeple (built in 1749). Of course, it would be impossible to be in the finest wine producing region of the island, without having a wine-tasting session!

Your guide will be pleased to meet you on the pier to start your tour by private car or minivan heading to the charming village of San Rocco by a panoramic road. San Rocco is a small hamlet, settled on the top of Portofino’s National Natural Park ( Site of Community Importance) , and is the starting point of a lovely path. The walk follows the coast line and stops in front of the little church of San Nicolò Capodimonte for a short visit. Proceed then to Punta Chiappa, a rocky formation jutting out into the sea, which is also a very interesting area due to a breathtaking landscapeand this site can be reached only by path or boat, no roads, no vehicles! All around there is  the coastline of Liguria, ahead Corsica, and behind on land there is the Batteria di Punta Chiappa hidden in the mountains. You will arrive at Stella Maris Resort and have the choice to swim (please note: no beaches and no sand, only rocks and water shoes recommended) or snorkel (no guide or equipment included, guest should take mask and fins on their own) or just relax on the terrace of Stella Maris Resort. You will then be welcomed with an aperitif on the terrace accompanied  by local specialties, and enjoy lunch including a starter and special homemade pasta with Camogli pesto sauce. After lunch, you will sail to  Camogli by boat to enjoy a guided walking tour among the highlights of this lovely fishing village.

Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is also a National Park and Protected Marine Area.  Clinging to the Ligurian cliffs on the west coast of Italy are five castles at nearly the same distance from one another - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Today you will see two of these sites as the ancient mariners had - from the sea. Depart from the pier heading to Cinque Terre, or five lands, and marvel as you approach the beautiful coast with villages suspended above the sea, almost defying gravity. Pass the scenic Tigullio Gulf and Poet's Gulf, with terraced vineyards alive with the aroma of olive trees blended with the fresh ocean breeze.  Arrive at the village of Vernazza, where you will disembark the vessel and begin a guided walking tour of this 1st century village. Notice the richness of its architecture, which evinces a wealthier standard of living than that of other villages. Following your tour, you will have free time to browse the local shops or enjoy a cafe. Reboard your boat and proceed to the next stop, the most westerly village and Cinque Terre's beach town, Monterosso. The town is divided into two distinct parts, San Cristoforo Hill, and the old maritime village protected by a rock spur. After your guide points out the highlights of Monterosso, you will have some free time to explore on your own, enjoy the beach and purchase your lunch. Meet the guide after free time and enjoy a relaxing panoramic cruise back to Santa Margherita.

Start your walk from the pier with your guide, viewing the elegant shops and boutiques that surround the charming piazzetta along the way.  You will walk by the church to the hiking path. The itinerary of the hike can vary depending on your guide, on the weather and path conditions and on the fellow guests in your group. The first half of the tour is mostly an uphill walk if your tour goes towards Cappelletta, San Sebastiano and Olmi, to reach Molini. You will pass elegant villas nestled among rich tropical vegetation and olive trees. If your tour starts heading towards Paraggi, you will walk along the coastline and then hike up towards Acquaviva and Molini, where an old olive oil mill has been restored, now housing a little museum, a café, and toilets. The path leads the way through the Mediterranean flora, vineyards and olive groves. Vegetation hugs the medieval dwellings and the cliffs drop off to the crystal-clear sea, making this one of the most fascinating locations of the Riviera. Continue walking on to Santa Anna and Nozarego and finally you will arrive at the main promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure. Santa Margherita’s colors, the arrangement of its characteristic houses, its rich villas and great hotels have painted around its bay something similar to a magical reflection. Pause for refreshment at a café and then you will return to Portofino by minivan, or you may choose to remain in Santa Margherita to stroll around on your own and go back to Portofino by taxi, public ferry or public bus.

Your tour departs from the port for the 1-hour drive to reach Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship “La Moreneta,” the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia.  The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles west of Barcelona. Besides visiting the Benedictine Abbey Monastery, you will admire also the Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat that is worshiped at the shrine in the Monastery. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost 1,000 years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. In addition to the monks, the escolans also live in Montserrat. They form the oldest boys choir in Europe ( and might be available during the visit).  You will be given a tour of the monastery, and have some free time before taking the coach back to the Windstar hotel.

 

Please note:  Comfortable shoes, water, a light jacket and a hat are recommended. There are downhill and uneven paths, plus cobblestones to walk over. There may be long lines to view the Black Virgin up close.  This excursion may operate in reverse. Access to the Basilica might be denied if mass is taking place. Setting out from the port by coach, you will find it easy to relax and enjoy this driving tour of Spain’s most fascinating city, Barcelona, a lovely Mediterranean stronghold of architectural interest. You will drive along one of Barcelona’s most famous streets, the Passeig de Gracia, lined with different Modernist buildings, many of which were designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Watch for Casa Batlló, an iconic Barcelona landmark and Casa Mila. You will drive by one of Gaudí’s masterpieces – the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) Church (outside visit). This is a site not to be missed. Though construction was started in 1882 it is still unfinished. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most-visited building in Barcelona, and immediately identifies the city around the world. From here you’ll head up to the viewpoint in Montjuic with the most exceptional views of Barcelona and its impressive harbor.

Your tour will depart for the 75-minute drive to the town of Porto Cristo, one of the oldest anchorages of the island. This fishing village is located at the end of a sheltered bay which developed in the Middle Ages to cater for Manacor. On the outskirts of the town is where you will find the famous Caves del Drach are located. The Caves of Drach are the most popular caves with tourists. There are three main caves, Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator, at the end of which is a place called La Ventana (the window). Through La Ventana there is a huge lake, now known as Lago Martel (Lake Martel), behind which is the latest discovery of the caves, now known as Cueva de los Franceses (Cave of the French). Enjoy a row boat ride across Lake Martel, one of the world’s largest underground lakes accompanied by live classical music. The beauty of the caves can be appreciated thanks to its exceptional lighting. You will stop in Porto Cristo, with a short amount of time to browse at the pearl factory.

Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands and lies on the southeastern coast of Mallorca Island. A wealth of architectural highlights awaits you. Board your coach and travel to your first stop at the circle-shaped 14th century Bellver Castle, one of the world’s very few rounded castles and the only one of its type in Europe. Built in military-influenced Gothic style, it lies atop a hill affording expansive panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside.  You will travel on to the handsome 13th century La Seu Cathedral, which presides over the city and is one of Europe’s finest examples of pure ecclesiastic Gothic architecture. After exploring the Cathedral’s interior you will view the exterior of the adjacent Almudaina Palace. This austere palace was originally an Arab fortress and later the palace of Majorcan kings. Before returning to the yacht you will stop to see the unique style and architectural engineering of the city’s famous bullring.

 

Please note: Comfortable shoes with rubber soles are recommended. There are approximately 100 steps from the coach parking area to the La Seu Cathedral. Spanish law requires that motor coach guest’s wear their seat belts at all times while in vehicles that are so equipped. On Sundays and holidays the Cathedral is not open to visitors. The history of the Cathedral will be given outside. When visiting the Cathedral, knees and shoulders must be covered. Bellver Castle is closed on Mondays and the visit will be from the outside only with extra time for shopping.

             

 

 

 

One of the best ways to experience some of Mallorca's dramatic scenery is this train ride across the island that allows you to see the rugged interior. From the port, a short motor coach ride will take you to the train station. You will board the old fashioned electric train for Soller. Learn all about this old fashioned electric train that has preserved its traditional character for almost 100 years. You will be passing almond and locust-bean trees, groves of olive trees and the lush and pine covered mountains.  Arrive in Soller and take a walking tour around this charming village before returning to your yacht.

 

Please note: Train ride will be one way and could be either going to Soller or coming back,  depending on train schedules. The other way will be by motor coach.  You should always take your ID and  bring a camera, sun protection and sunglasses.

 

              

 

A short motor coach drive past olive trees and local vegetation brings you to the quaint 14th century village of Valldemossa, located at the foot of the Northern Mountain Range. Its former royal residence, La Cartuja, is the first stop on your tour. The residence became a Carthusian monastery in the Middle Ages and your guide will show you the chapel, a pharmacy, and the monks’ library. Valldemossa’s shining moment was in 1838, when George Sand and Frederic Chopin came to live at the monastery. Their stay here is well documented and a collection of their furniture remains. George Sand later wrote a book about their time here, entitled “A Winter in Majorca.” You will have an opportunity to taste the typical sweets from Valldemosa called Coca de Patata, an individual sweet cake made with potatoes. The drive back to the ship will give you the opportunity to view the impressive cliffs to the north.

Just a few kilometers from the Port of Cartagena, this beautiful hacienda will delight you with the magnificent steeds of the ranch, pure Spanish-bred horses with fine bloodlines and a graceful appearance.  You will have the special opportunity meet the family and ask them questions. These carefully bred horses are sent to horse lovers all over the world. Looking and even touching the broodmares, seeing  the foals and new babies, watching the impressive stampede show, the Spanish Horse Training and the art of managing stallions are some of the things you will enjoy during the visit to the ranch. But just before returning to the pier, and while tasting some snacks you will be treated with an Andalusian dancer and a stallion performance. Enjoy the amazing scenery on your return to the yacht.

Discover the essence of the Andalusian region visiting one of the most charming and well-known villages of the famous Costa del Sol, Mijas. After a 45-minute panoramic drive, the coach will bring you to the bottom of this white village, where the narrow streets will take you to the upper point of the village.  You will have a 1-hour, 45-minute guided walking tour of Mijas where you will want to take pictures of the sites, including the Bullfight ring. Also the panorama of the valley will delight all your photographers. Once you have visited the village, you will have your gastronomic experience in a local Restaurant, Secret Garden, where you will be able to taste two kinds of wine, accompanied by delicious Spanish Jamón and cheese tapas. Then, you will have about 45 minutes of free time to either relax in the lovely patio and garden of the restaurant , enjoy a nice walk in Mijas or for those who think that their walk is over, there is still the option of touring the village on the back of a donkey taxi (not included in the price of this tour), before boarding your coach to return to Malaga.

Those of you who delight in ancient history and art lovers cannot miss this tour! With half a million inhabitants, Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. From the outside you will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Fortress, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. It is connected by a step path to Gibralfaro Castle, an ancient Moorish fortress with breathtaking views of the city and its bay. Buses will take you to the castle so you won’t have to walk up the hill. The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the rightful owner of the collection there, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that holds it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the collection. At the museum, you will be able to appreciate all Picasso styles and techniques (Painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramic and graphic works in an exhibition with 155 works ranging from 1890 up to 1973.

Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina, in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street, the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square, at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church, built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You’ll also visit the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you’ll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion, Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque, before returning to Marina Square.

You will board your minivan quayside and travel past the American War Memorial and the headquarters of the remaining British Naval forces in Gibraltar as you head toward Europa Point.Here you will have a photo opportunity of the beautiful Straits and the Bay of Gibraltar, the Spanish mainland and the African continent. You will proceed to the Upper Rock area to visit St. Michael’s Cave and the famous Barbary Apes. You will drive past the Moorish Castle and the Tower of Homage to enter the Upper Town area’s narrow streets.

You will board your minivan quayside for the short ride to the Cable Car Base Station.  Your cable car will take you to the Top Station perched on the summit of “The Rock,” for a breathtaking view as you are suspended in mid-air. At the Top Station your guide will show you around the geography of this British colony.  Then you will travel to the Middle Station and the sanctuary of Gibraltar’s old inhabitants, the Barbary Apes, roaming free around this station.  Reboard your coach for a 5-minute drive to Princess Caroline’s Battery and the entrance to the Great Siege Tunnels, a system of tunnels carved out of solid limestone.  Proceed to the Gibraltar Museum with its enormous amount of artifacts on display.

This tour will depart from the port of Cádiz for a visit to the historical center of town and its bay. Your guide will point out the important monuments and landmarks along the way. Watch for the Mudejar-style tobacco factory (1741) which now serves as the Congress building, Santo Domingo Church, the old Royal Prison in Andalusian neo-classical style and the Roman Theatre which overlooks the city’s main cathedral. Before reaching the city center, you will also pass the ancient Phoenician port of La Caleta, the Botanical Gardens and the castle walls that once protected the town. Leave the motorcoach at Plaza de España and start your walking tour through the most typical streets of the city. You will see the Plaza de la Mina, once a monk’s vegetable patch, and the outside of the Cádiz Museum. On Calle Ancha, there are beautiful 19th century palaces and the Cathedral where you can step inside to view an eclectic transition from 13th century Baroque style to 19th century neo-classical style.  Flamenco, a vibrant mixture of dance, song and guitar is the heart and soul of Andalucía. Like the province, flamenco has evolved alongside the contrasting historic influences of Arabic, Jewish, and Gypsy cultures. The Gypsies arrived from India in 1450 and have continued to be pivotal to the development of flamenco. Today, throughout the world there is a demand for a modern, youthful, "flamenco fusion" a blend of flamenco and world music. You will start your tour  with a drive to  Jerez City  and proceed to  visit  a Vineyard, Virey Laserna Palace and  Fundador sherry cellars.  Your tour will start with  a private visit to the Vineyard in Finca El Majuelo, located in Jerez de la Frontera, a town only 30 miles from the sea and the city of Cádiz. The landscape you will see changes from the dry coastal plain to the fertile land near Jerez. The milder climate makes it possible to cultivate the grapes that produce the three main varieties of sherry.  You will visit  Virey Laserna Palace, located in the heart of  the historic center of the city, also known as the Palace of the Conde de los Andes. The beautiful architectural design of the Palace has a neoclassical style reminiscent of an earlier period with a garden and exquisite decorations inside. You will visit  a famous local wine cellar where the time-honored blending process that is responsible for the quality sherry wines will be explained during your guided tour. Afterwards, a tasting of 3 different types of sherry will be offered.

Moorish-influenced Seville lies in the heart of Andalusia, on the Guadalquivir River Plain. Become acquainted with one of Spain’s greatest and most beautiful cities. Travel by motor coach 1¾ hours north to Seville, which features many architectural highlights, including the cathedral, and Casa de Pilatos. After a 1-hour visit to the cathedral, you will stroll through the old Jewish area, known as the Santa Cruz Quarter. Artisans’ shops and quaint cafés occupy whitewashed houses crowded along meandering alleys and charming squares.  Following lunch on your own, you will take in a panoramic overview of Seville seeing such landmark monuments as the Torre del Oro and La Giralda Tower before taking a refreshing stop at the Plaza de España. Pause to admire this impressive square, which is crossed by a canal, before rejoining your motor coach for the 1¾-hour return drive to the ship.
