After around 45 minutes of kayaking, you'll reach Lokrum Island, where you'll have free time to swim or explore. Lokrum Island, located just in front of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, holds fascinating history and legend. It’s said that Richard the Lionheart was cast ashore here after surviving a shipwreck in 1192 while returning from the Crusades. In the 12th century, Benedictine monks built a monastery on the island, which they occupied for over 600 years. Though the remains of the monastery are still visible, part of it was converted into a residence for Emperor Maximilian of Mexico in the 19th century. The island is also home to a unique natural feature—Mrtvo More, or the Dead Sea, a small lake connected to the open sea by an underground channel.
