Papeete to Papeete
The trade winds of French Polynesia have enticed sailors for centuries – and now those same beautiful breezes welcome us as we sail through the windward and leeward Society Islands to the serene natural beauty of the Tuamotu Islands, where pristine atolls and crystal lagoons welcome you to a hidden paradise. Visit Fakarava where rare species are found nowhere else on earth.

Day 1: Papeete
Relax on sunny beaches, sample Tahitian fare, and take in the effervescent spirit of the city. But whatever you do, save time — and luggage space — for shopping. Black pearls and colorful crafts fill the market and local treasures are so plentiful you’ll have trouble making your choices but you won't be bothered with large crowds and big tour groups because French Tahiti is only accessible to small ships like ours.
VIEW THE JOURNEY
Day 2: Moorea
Welcome to paradise, where your stunning surroundings soak up superlatives and call for more. In our stay here you’ll have plenty of time to do it all. Be sure to consider the opportunity to hone your photography talents on an optional tour of the island in the company of a professional photographer. Your choices here are endless. Hike the majestic Three Coconut Trail. Visit dolphins in their native habitat. Or spend your time swimming and kayaking from the Watersports Platform as we lay at anchor in these beautiful sapphire seas.

Day 3: Fakarava
Here is a rare opportunity to experience one of earth’s most beautiful – and most rare – places.  Fakarava, a place so stunning, an ecosystem so diverse it has been named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This diver’s paradise welcomes you to a world of magnificent cauliflower coral, sleek grey sharks, and neon schools of tropical fish. This “Island of Dreams” is home to rare species of nesting birds and rare marine life living in tranquil harmony.
VIEW THE JOURNEY
Day 4: Rangiroa
Some people call this place heaven. You will call it perfect. The huge lagoon surrounded by beautiful coral and filled with colorful fish, rays, and dolphin is a diver’s dream. Explore, with an optional tour, in a glass bottom boat, take a dive that matches your level of expertise, or enjoy the magic of drift snorkeling. This is a place like no other on earth.
VIEW THE JOURNEY
Day 6: Motu Mahaea (Tahaa)
We will spend the day on a private island complete with swaying palm trees and white-sand beaches. Swim, snorkel and enjoy a variety of water sports in the crystal-clear waters. There will be a delicious barbecue lunch and tropical drinks waiting for you. Explore Tahaa with optional excursions to discover the vanilla plantations and sacred sites of the island.
VIEW THE JOURNEY
Day 6: Raiatea
Raiatea, “The Sacred Island,” is located just across the lagoon from Tahaa and shares the same barrier reef. (Legend claims the two were a single island until a conger eel possessed by the spirit of a princess separated them.) It used to be the center of religion and culture in the Society Islands. Taputapuatea, on the southeast coast, was once the most important marae around, the place where kings from the neighboring islands would gather for important ceremonies. Uturoa, the main town, reminds some people of Papeete in its younger days with its quaint low-rise buildings. Raiatea is also home to the only navigable river in the islands, the Fa’aroa. Explore Polynesian history or climb Mount Temehani in search of the rare tiare apetahi flower, which grows only here.

You’ll have lots of options for exploration, whether you prefer the access provided by a 4-by-4, or the thrill of riding in the open air. Stretch out on stunning white-sand beaches, dive and swim in brightly colored seas, or sail among the tiny islands and lagoons. But the highlight here will be the Windstar Exclusive Destination Discovery Event on a private motu complete with fire dancers. This is the stuff that dreams are made of and available to small ships.

A Complimentary Windstar Destination Discovery Event

Bora Bora: Celebration Festival
Bora Bora is surrounded by a number of tiny islets called “motu” – small, pristine, secluded paradises that offer privacy, beauty and relaxing ambiance. You will spend the evening on one of these perfect Polynesian oases accompanied only by other Windstar guests. As has long been the tradition in Tahiti, you will be welcomed to the motu with a fragrant flower lei.

Your private feast on the beach promises to be extraordinary. The menu has been carefully selected by Windstar’s executive chef and is sure to please and tantalize your palate.

When your meal is complete and the stars begin to shine, the highlight of this enchanted evening will begin. Fire dancing has long been deeply embedded in the Polynesian culture as a way to send messages to the gods. Your fire dancing experts will be wearing traditional loincloths and will dazzle you with high-speed acrobatic moves, throwing flames so hot you’ll feel the warmth 10 feet away.

Please note: This Destination Discovery Event has been scheduled in a way that will allow you to book and experience another shore excursion on the same day and you will not miss anything.

“I was excited to read [Fakarava] has been designated a UNESCO biosphere due to its untouched environment and underwater life. And it delivered… several manta rays (largest of the ray family) joined us on our first dive — the first I’d seen in all my years of diving.”
Debbra Dunning Brouillette
The Story
Tahiti has captivated sailors since the days of Captain Cook with its emerald massifs, sparkling lagoons, and welcoming islanders. The water is impossibly clear, refracting off white sand in shimmering shades of jade, aquamarine, and turquoise. And while the islands themselves are impossibly beautiful, there’s a whole other world to explore beyond shore.

Drift snorkel along coral reefs teeming with rainbow-colored angelfish, butterfly fish, parrotfish, clown fish, and an occasional manta ray or sea turtle. Then venture to the remote and less-visited Tuamotus where the real show begins. These low-lying atolls save their drama for the world below, where canyons, passes, and valleys offer a fertile wonderland for marine residents.

Well-ventilated lagoons offer exceptional visibility, and the blender effect ensures that reef residents eat well. The Tuamotus are one of the best places in the world to see reef sharks, grey sharks, sturgeons, lemon sharks, white tip sharks, perch, barracudas, tunas, manta rays, and dolphins. And in certain months, eagle rays and hammerheads. In fact, Fakarava’s reef is such a unique ecosystem it’s been named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. And with glass-bottom boats, AquaSafaris, snorkeling and SCUBA excursions, you can explore this magical world even if you don’t want to get wet.

Insider Tips:
• You’ll receive your own personal set of snorkeling equipment and fins for the duration of the voyage, custom-fit by our Watersports team. So you can snorkel from the beach without having to wait in line to rent equipment.

• One thing you’ll want to do as soon as you get on board – make a reservation to dine in Candles. This signature outdoor restaurant is the perfect place to watch a tropical sunset and enjoy a romantic tête-a-tête.

• In the islands you’re almost guaranteed to come across noni (NO-nee) juice, made from the fruit of the Morinda citrifolia tree. Polynesians have used noni in traditional folk medicine for over 2,000 years and it’s packed with antioxidants.

• The most thrilling diving and snorkeling in the Tuamotu chain is drift diving, a Zen-like experience where you float along with the current. This allows you to conserve energy and concentrate on the scenery going by.

• While colorful reef fish are plentiful, French Polynesia is renowned for its big marine animals. And if you’re into sharks, this is simply one of the best dive destinations in the world.

• We recommend all guests bring water shoes, as the beaches may be rocky and the coral can be sharp.
