The beautiful peninsula of Cap Corse is a ribbon of sheer coast along a fault line, suspended at an altitude of 3,280 feet. Between two seas. The prelude to the beauties of Cap Corse will be found along the road called the Cliff Road which, starting you will journey on  from Bastia and it will a matchless view over the Tuscan Archipelago.  A 30-minute ride will take you to the small and colorful fishing port of Erbalunga  where you will have time to spend before re-boarding your motor coach for the 30-minute to Luri for another short stop.  Then on for a 60-minute drive to the marine of Pino and the sheer cliff of Nonza with its Genovese tower and a boundless grey beach — offering astonishing landscapes.

The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. This walking tour will take you to some purportedly haunted sites, and give you an overview of the superstitions and local legends which still hold sway.

Your journey from Bastia will lead inland to Oletta – a small village terraced up the hillside, and from where there is a lovely view of Saint Florent and over  the countryside of olive groves, vineyards, and pastures – small squares of property delimited by dry stone walls. Then the road climbs up to the San Stefano Pass, through chestnut and olive groves, and from there is a spectacular panorama down to the east coast and the Biguglia “étang” (pool) and in the other direction, across the Agriates Desert and the sea at Saint Florent.  You will climb a sinuous, narrow road, up to the Teghime Pass, where at an altitude of 1,759 feet ( 536M), the views are completely different in each direction. To the West: over extensive vineyards right to the gulf of Saint Florent. To the South: across mountains and valleys towards the chestnut forests of the Castagniccia. The East: past Bastia and the sea leading to Italy. Finally North: the mountainous backbone of the Cap Corse. The road turns and twists its way down to Patrimonio, offering picturesque views background. Patrimonio village is dominated by its church and high steeple (built in 1749). Of course, it would be impossible to be in the finest wine producing region of the island, without having a wine-tasting session!

Your guide will be pleased to meet you on the pier to start your tour by private car or minivan heading to the charming village of San Rocco by a panoramic road. San Rocco is a small hamlet, settled on the top of Portofino’s National Natural Park ( Site of Community Importance) , and is the starting point of a lovely path. The walk follows the coast line and stops in front of the little church of San Nicolò Capodimonte for a short visit. Proceed then to Punta Chiappa, a rocky formation jutting out into the sea, which is also a very interesting area due to a breathtaking landscapeand this site can be reached only by path or boat, no roads, no vehicles! All around there is  the coastline of Liguria, ahead Corsica, and behind on land there is the Batteria di Punta Chiappa hidden in the mountains. You will arrive at Stella Maris Resort and have the choice to swim (please note: no beaches and no sand, only rocks and water shoes recommended) or snorkel (no guide or equipment included, guest should take mask and fins on their own) or just relax on the terrace of Stella Maris Resort. You will then be welcomed with an aperitif on the terrace accompanied  by local specialties, and enjoy lunch including a starter and special homemade pasta with Camogli pesto sauce. After lunch, you will sail to  Camogli by boat to enjoy a guided walking tour among the highlights of this lovely fishing village.

Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is also a National Park and Protected Marine Area.  Clinging to the Ligurian cliffs on the west coast of Italy are five castles at nearly the same distance from one another - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Today you will see two of these sites as the ancient mariners had - from the sea. Depart from the pier heading to Cinque Terre, or five lands, and marvel as you approach the beautiful coast with villages suspended above the sea, almost defying gravity. Pass the scenic Tigullio Gulf and Poet's Gulf, with terraced vineyards alive with the aroma of olive trees blended with the fresh ocean breeze.  Arrive at the village of Vernazza, where you will disembark the vessel and begin a guided walking tour of this 1st century village. Notice the richness of its architecture, which evinces a wealthier standard of living than that of other villages. Following your tour, you will have free time to browse the local shops or enjoy a cafe. Reboard your boat and proceed to the next stop, the most westerly village and Cinque Terre's beach town, Monterosso. The town is divided into two distinct parts, San Cristoforo Hill, and the old maritime village protected by a rock spur. After your guide points out the highlights of Monterosso, you will have some free time to explore on your own, enjoy the beach and purchase your lunch. Meet the guide after free time and enjoy a relaxing panoramic cruise back to Santa Margherita.

The path leads the way through the Mediterranean flora, vineyards and olive groves. Continue walking on to Santa Anna and Nozarego and finally you will arrive at the main promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure. Santa Margherita’s colors, the arrangement of its characteristic houses, its rich villas and great hotels have painted around its bay something similar to a magical reflection. Pause for refreshment at a café and then you will return to Portofino by minivan, or you may choose to remain in Santa Margherita to stroll around on your own and go back to Portofino by taxi, public ferry or public bus.

You will depart via motor coach and drive to Hal-Qormi, to Razzett l-Antik [Old Farmhouse].  There you will participate in a cooking challenge where you will be assigned to one of six kitchenettes, provided with setup, ingredients, aprons, and supervised by their Chef. Everyone will be encouraged to participate in the cooking.  A table with ingredients will be provided in the center of your workstation, and you and your team will be asked to prepare a particular dish, according to the ingredients provided. Points will be given on ingredients, teamwork and presentation of food.  You will also be able to take part in a food tasting including local Maltese Mediterranean Antipasti platters.  Your panoramic drive back to your yacht will go through Siggiewi and Zebbug with photo stops and short walking tours before you will arrive back at the quay for re-embarkation.

Your coach will depart quayside for a short drive round the impressive bastions of Valletta and past Fort St Elmo. Upon arrival in Valletta, you will walk to the Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of Malta’s natural harbors and historic cities. Then proceed to St John’s Co-Cathedral, the conventual church of the Knights of Malta, where you will also have the opportunity to see Caravaggio’s famous masterpiece: The Beheading of St John.  Continue with a drive through the Three Cities – Senglea, Cospicua, and Vittoriosa. Left largely unvisited, the Three Cities will show you a slice of authentic life, and a glimpse into Malta’s maritime fortunes. The Three Cities can rightly claim to be the cradle of Maltese history. Take a short walking tour then embark on traditional Maltese ‘Dghajsas’ for a 20 - minute boat trip around the harbor, crossing over to the Waterfront Laguna.

Today you will have the opportunity to visit the amazing Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This splendid archaeological park consists of eight temples (and various other remains) built between about 510 B.C. and 430 B.C.   You will see the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia (one of the best preserved), the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Olympian Zeus (the largest temple), the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Hephaestos, the Temple of Demeter, and the Temple of Asclepius (the God of Medicine).  Apart from the Temple of Asclepius, which is found on the banks of the Akragas River, all are situated in the same area on rocky crests south of modern day Agrigento (not really in a valley at all!).

To see the best of Sicily, you have to climb to great heights. And on this trip you’ll do exactly that. After a 45-minute coach drive to the cable station, you’ll take the cable car up to the top of a mountain. Take in the view out over the Trapani Salt Pans, the turquoise sea and all the way to the Egadi Islands – it’s breathtaking. While you’re up here, you’ll explore the medieval town that is Erice. Wander the winding cobbled streets, listen to your guide give an informational takl outside the the Mother Church that’s stood there for over 700 years, and admire the Castle of Venus where the son of Athena, goddess of love, built a temple in his mother’s honor. And save some sighs for the gorgeous Balio Gardens in all their rainbow bright glory. Last, but not least, you’ll have time to enjoy the atmosphere in Erice’s tiny plaza, before you take the cable car back down to your waiting ship.

 

Please note: The shops are open from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and closed on Sunday. If the cable car cannot be used for operational reasons, a coach will be used instead.  Knees and shoulders must be covered when visiting any religious sites in Italy and since Erice is 2,467 feet above sea level, and generally chillier than Trapani it is recommended you bring a sweater or light jacket. You will meet your guide and board your motor coach for the 1-hour drive to Marsala and spend time in the historical center. Marsala is the most western situated city in Sicily and the fifth biggest city in Sicily with 80,000 inhabitants.  You will visit the picturesque city center and the Marsala Cathedral, which was built on the foundations of a preexisting Norman castle, with an organ with 4,317 pipes. Marsala is also famous for the production of excellent Marsala wines and after your walk in the city you will go to the most important winery of the region, the renowned Cantine Pellegrino to see how fortified wine is made and to taste it for yourself. After a light lunch at the winery you will be driven back to the ship.

Trapani is an attractive old port town, rediscovering its charms after years of neglect. Halfway between Europe and Tunis, it was a rich trading center throughout the early Middle Ages, then, flourished again in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a stronghold of the tuna-canning industry. After that, it went into decline, and became a salty old port. Then, it was selected to host the 2004 America’s Cup and received a massive injection of cash – buildings were restored, streets in the historic center pedestrianized – giving the town and its people a new confidence. These days Trapani is a thoroughly pleasant place to hang out for a couple of days. You will join your guide for a pleasant walking visit of the historical center of Trapani, with its many churches and palazzos with their ornate façades and elaborate interior, perfect examples of the Baroque style. At the end of the guided visit, enjoy a typical Sicilian coffee break including one cannolo and one coffee or one cappuccino, followed by 45 minutes of free time. At the conclusion of your tour you can leisurely walk back to the pier with your guide or continue to spend time in town returning to the ship on your own.

Departing the pier by motor coach you will begin your sightseeing tour of Lipari. For the next 90 minutes you will make stops at some of the best viewpoints on the island, offering magnificent vistas of the Aeolian Archipelago.  Then it’s off to a local pizzeria, where the owners enthusiastically demonstrate how to make traditional Sicilian pizza. You’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at making your very own pizza, according to your own personal taste.  Finally, you will sit down to enjoy your creation accompanied with wine and Aeolian cookies, before returning to your yacht.

Lipari is the largest of the seven Aeolian Islands and is well known not only for its mythological connections, but most of all for its natural beauty. Arriving at Marina Corta, you will board your coach and proceed on a panoramic tour of the island. Two beaches, Marina Lunga and Marina Corta, frame the town of Lipari, which is encircled by 13th -14th  century walls and dominated by a 16th century Norman castle. Nearby there is an impressive view of the bay. Between the islands of Lipari and Vulcano, in the Bocche di Vulcano, you will see picturesque rocks resembling Druidical stones, among them the Pietralunga, a basalt nearly 240 feet (72m) high. After a brief stop at Canneto Village, you will continue with your drive noting where the road is crossed by red and black veins of obsidian. Your guide will bring you to a local establishment to enjoy a delicious refreshment. You’ll then return to the landing area or you may choose to remain in town to explore on your own until the last tender departure.

Positano town is embroidered with narrow lanes and steps, and is dominated by the splendid dome of Santa Maria Assunta covered in polychrome majolica. Piazzetta and cafés are crowded by people relaxing after climbing the hundreds of steps up the hillside (not compulsory). Enjoy time at leisure for shopping and sit for a  drink at a café.  Continue your ride to Amalfi, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Between 839 and around 1200, Amalfi was the capital of the Maritime Republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean directly competing with Pisa, Venice, and Genoa. After a visit to the Cloister of Paradise, built between 1266 and 1268, with its white columns and pointed arches that reflects a clear influence of the Arab domination, you will have some free time for shopping or exploring around. Ride back to Sorrento by private speedboat.

You will meet your guide at the pier and board a shuttle bus for the 15-minute drive to the center of Sorrento. This small town is wonderfully located over steep white cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the limestone mountains. For 2000 years visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and the fragrances of orange and lemon gardens. Enjoy a guided visit of the old town, stroll along the colorful streets and admire the beautiful churches, the most famous the Cathedral, in Romanesque style dedicated to the Saints Giacomo and Filippo and built during the 15th  century. Stop in the Main Square, Piazza Tasso, which is the center of the Sorrentine life and  enjoy the wonderful panorama on the Gulf of Naples from the Gardens overlooking the port. Your shuttle bus will then take you to the farm house were you will experience the work of local modern farmers! Take your time to taste local fresh products such as Caprese salad, eggplants, bruschetta, local wine and limoncello. Return back by shuttle to your ship.

Vesuvius in  79 A.D.  You will learn about the excavation technique and what the residents were doing at the time of the eruption, and you’ll gain an insight into the lives of the ancient Romans as you discover baths, theaters, temples, markets and the huge forum with the Arch of Nero. After your tour, you will have about 30 minutes of free time before your drive back to meet your Windstar yacht.

Re-board your boat and head to the enchanting village of Amalfi—its white houses perched on the rocks overlooking a bright blue bay. Flanked by an old Saracen tower and a 12th century Capuchin monastery, Amalfi boasts a splendid cathedral adorned with geometric designs in colored stones. Your guide will lead you to St. Andrew’s Cathedral and provide an introduction to the town before you’re set loose to explore on your own. Following this free time, return to your waiting yacht.

You will set out from the harbor in Amalfi and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic 30-minute drive to Ravello—one of the most popular and well-known locations on the Amalfi Coast. You will see the duomo (cathedral) as you enter the main square. If the church is open, you will be able to peek inside at the majestic marble pulpit, richly cased with mosaic friezes and columns. You will visit Villa Rufolo with your guide, a spectacular complex formed by the main palace and various other buildings of Arabian-Sicilian style, arranged on a wide terrace facing the gulf. Walk along a small avenue till you’ll arrive at the Moorish courtyard, which opens up onto a luxurious garden of pines, cypress and exotic plants. From here, you can descend to the lower terrace. At the end of your visit, relax on the return drive to Amalfi, where you will visit the Cathedral and have free time to stroll along the narrow streets.
