The beautiful peninsula of Cap Corse is a ribbon of sheer coast along a fault line, suspended at an altitude of 3,280 feet. Between two seas. The prelude to the beauties of Cap Corse will be found along the road called the Cliff Road which, starting you will journey on  from Bastia and it will a matchless view over the Tuscan Archipelago.  A 30-minute ride will take you to the small and colorful fishing port of Erbalunga  where you will have time to spend before re-boarding your motor coach for the 30-minute to Luri for another short stop.  Then on for a 60-minute drive to the marine of Pino and the sheer cliff of Nonza with its Genovese tower and a boundless grey beach — offering astonishing landscapes.

Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372).  They needed a city and port which could assure the contact between their “Homeland” and their “colony”. Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock,  easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastia. The numerous religious buildings dotted all over the island bear witness to the profound religious fervor of its inhabitants and their attachment to the Catholic faith. Despite this, the collective consciousness remains steeped in many pagan traditions,with relics of ancient beliefs. The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. This walking tour will take you to some purportedly haunted sites, and give you an overview of the superstitions and local legends which still hold sway.

Your journey from Bastia will lead inland to Oletta – a small village terraced up the hillside, and from where there is a lovely view of Saint Florent and over  the countryside of olive groves, vineyards, and pastures – small squares of property delimited by dry stone walls. Then the road climbs up to the San Stefano Pass, through chestnut and olive groves, and from there is a spectacular panorama down to the east coast and the Biguglia “étang” (pool) and in the other direction, across the Agriates Desert and the sea at Saint Florent.  You will climb a sinuous, narrow road, up to the Teghime Pass, where at an altitude of 1,759 feet ( 536M), the views are completely different in each direction. To the West: over extensive vineyards right to the gulf of Saint Florent. To the South: across mountains and valleys towards the chestnut forests of the Castagniccia. The East: past Bastia and the sea leading to Italy. Finally North: the mountainous backbone of the Cap Corse. The road turns and twists its way down to Patrimonio, offering picturesque views background. Patrimonio village is dominated by its church and high steeple (built in 1749). Of course, it would be impossible to be in the finest wine producing region of the island, without having a wine-tasting session!

Its charm is still evident; little squares, white Moorish-style houses set in luxurious gardens, descent in steep steps down the mountainside to the bay. Offshore is Galli Island, legendary home of Sirens. Positano town is embroidered with narrow lanes and steps, and is dominated by the splendid dome of Santa Maria Assunta covered in polychrome majolica. Piazzetta and cafés are crowded by people relaxing after climbing the hundreds of steps up the hillside (not compulsory). Enjoy time at leisure for shopping and sit for a  drink at a café.  Continue your ride to Amalfi, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Between 839 and around 1200, Amalfi was the capital of the Maritime Republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean directly competing with Pisa, Venice, and Genoa. After a visit to the Cloister of Paradise, built between 1266 and 1268, with its white columns and pointed arches that reflects a clear influence of the Arab domination, you will have some free time for shopping or exploring around. Ride back to Sorrento by private speedboat.

You will meet your guide at the pier and board a shuttle bus for the 15-minute drive to the center of Sorrento. This small town is wonderfully located over steep white cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the limestone mountains. For 2000 years visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and the fragrances of orange and lemon gardens. Enjoy a guided visit of the old town, stroll along the colorful streets and admire the beautiful churches, the most famous the Cathedral, in Romanesque style dedicated to the Saints Giacomo and Filippo and built during the 15th  century. Stop in the Main Square, Piazza Tasso, which is the center of the Sorrentine life and  enjoy the wonderful panorama on the Gulf of Naples from the Gardens overlooking the port. Your shuttle bus will then take you to the farm house were you will experience the work of local modern farmers! Take your time to taste local fresh products such as Caprese salad, eggplants, bruschetta, local wine and limoncello. Return back by shuttle to your ship.

Leaving the pier by coach, you will begin with a brief drive through Messina for a 45-minute trip via the freeway and then motor along the coastal road bordered by villas, flowering gardens, and picturesque villages to reach Savoca. Its scenic beauty and historical-artistic heritage makes Savoca, one of the most attractive and unknown places of Taormina. In a private house in the village, "Bar Vitelli," houses a collection of local artisans' tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot scenes of "The Godfather II."  After a typical refreshment  begin a walking tour along the village's main street past two Churches of the 15th and 16th centuries, ( Santa Lucia and San Michele ) and to enjoy the view over the valley. Continue to Forza d'Agro, a 20-minute drive towards Taormina, a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant'Alessio. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola arrived there to shoot scenes for the film, "The Godfather III." From the main square, a lane leads up to the circular steps, which ascend to the Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of St. Agostino also known as “Triade.“  Before departing, see the Baroque Chiesa Madre.

Monemvasia is unique among ruined medieval cities in that it is entirely built on a rock that appears to be barren when seen from the mainland. Your tour will commence with a walk through the narrow streets at the castle, where the streets are so tiny that in many places only two people can walk side by side. While strolling along these narrow lanes you will see ruined houses and Byzantine churches and Church of Christ Elkomenos. This cathedral dates back to the 13th century, but features alterations made during the Venetian occupation of Monemvasia. Then you will visit “Liotrivi”(Olive Oil Factory), a fully restored historic mansion that previously was the home of the family Ritsos, where the world-renowned poet lived during his childhood.  You will have a guided tour in the old olive mill and learn the traditional method of producing extra virgin olive oil.  You will walk to the vineyards and the olive groves. In a patio area, an experienced cook will knead and bake traditional bread in a wood-oven. The bread made, along with other local products, will be served to you in an appetizer buffet under the olive trees where you will have the opportunity to also taste the famous wines of Monemvasia.
