Your motor coach and English-speaking guide will take you via the beautiful coastal road bordering the River Tagus, driving through the fashionable resort of Estoril - the home of several international royal exiles during the Second World War – to the lively scenic village of Cascais.  Here you will have a guided tour around its plaza and enjoy its colorful setting of seaside café terraces, small shops, and sailboats. For six centuries Sintra was the favorite summer residence of the kings of Portugal, who were attracted by the cool climate and the lush beauty of the town’s setting.  Writers and poets in general – Lord Byron, Alfred Tennyson, Hans Christian Andersen, and Isaac Bashevis Singer chose Sintra as a preferred destination. The tall conical chimneys of the National Palace and the fabulous Pena Palace, are two unmistakable landmarks of this area. You will have the opportunity to taste local pastry in one of the cafés in Sintra followed by a guided walk to explore this town recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Lisbon is a city of contrasts, where modern trends merge with ancient ones, accentuating Lisbon’s variety and intensity of color. You will continue along Liberty Avenue a charming old boulevard place of several international stores (such as Prada or Armani) lined with gardens and known for its unique black and white mosaics on the sidewalks on the way to Marquês de Pombal Square. The highlight of your visit is the church of the Jeronimos Monastery (outside visit only), a masterpiece of Manueline architecture, widely acknowledged to be the finest sight in Lisbon, built in the 16th century to commemorate the discoveries of Portuguese navigators. Nearby, you will see the lavishly decorated Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries, built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator. On the way to the hotel or to the airport, you will see, stretching across the Tagus River, the April 25th Bridge, sister to the Golden Gate, and the towering Christ the King statue on the far side.

Taste the famous poncha, a delightful local drink made of rum and honey on your way to Cabo Girao, the highest sea cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world. It features a skywalk with an amazing glass floor balcony (1,932 feet up). Enjoy a brief photo opportunity here to capture the magnificent sights before heading to Ribeira Brava, a historic town filled with quaint shops, wonderful cafés, and endless island charm.

The culinary specialty of Madeira is espetadas - small portions of beef cooked over an open fire and served on a large skewer. The highlight of the evening will be a demonstration of local folk dancing. Explore the adventurous city of Funchal, capital of Madeira and Portugal's largest town. You will board your motor coach for the short 10-minute drive to the center of town. Walk through the vibrant local market, explore the Old Town where the first settlement of the city was born. This old part of the city is characterized by its narrow sidewalk streets and façades of old houses and is considered a historical area of great architectural and patrimonial value. You will climb to Monte by cable car. This village located at an elevation of 1,772 feet  high was the last residence of Carlos I of Austria, who is buried in the Church of Our Lady of Monte. Finally you will have a 25-minute drive to visit the Old Blandy Wine Lodge in the center of Funchal which  acts as an excellent show place for many the finest wines of Madeira.  You will taste four  5-years-old wines accompanied by some delicious snacks.

 

 

 

 

 

Get ready to fall in love with the lush landscape of Madeira. A  25-minute motor coach drive will take you to Monte situated high in the hills. You will indulge in the fun local past-time of toboggan riding as you take a ride in a wicker chariot through the streets! Board your motor coach to travel to the wonderful forest of Garajonay, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and your first destination after leaving the island capital, San Sebastian. Standing at over 4,000 feet above sea level, the views you’ll see provide a magnificent panorama that stretches to the neighboring islands of Tenerife in the east and La Palma in the west. Making a number of stops along the way, you will have a myriad of opportunities to take photographs and enjoy the view.  You will then begin your descent to the coast. Included on this tour is a visit the incredible Valle Gran Rey, home of the island’s last “Guanche” Chieftain, and you will learn about the conquest of La Gomera at the beginning of the 15th century. Dominated by the surrounding curtain of mountains, you’ll discover remote communities and terraced farms that cling to the valley walls all around. A short stop for refreshments in Arure will be made then route back to your ship in San Sebastian.

From San Sebastian, the island’s capital, you’ll visit La Gomera’s most interesting sights, traveling by motor coach. First you’ll head north to the agricultural valley of Hermigua, famous for its banana plantations. The Garajonay National Park covers the southern part of this municipality and one of its landmarks is the twin rocks “Roques de San Pedro.”  You will see the subtropical thermopile forest of Laurisilva Woods before traveling on to the small, enchanting village of Agulo. Surrounded by a massive basalt wall almost 984 feet high, Agulo offers a breathtaking view of the nearby island of Tenerife. It’s a short 15-minute drive to Centro Visitantes Juego de Bolas in Las Rosas a center where you will learn the history of how the island was formed. Your next destination will be Laguna Grande in the middle of the National Park Garajonay, where you will enjoy a guided walk. Head to Agando, where you will see the magnificent landscape of volcanic basalt formations at Roques de Agando and Orchilla, one of La Gomera’s most striking features at 4,074 feet high. Then, your motor coach will return you to your yacht.
 
Please note: This tour is not recommended for wheelchairs or people with mobility issues due to the amount of walking required. All roads on La Gomera are winding and there are some ravines. It is advised that you bring your camera, comfortable shoes and seasonal clothes like a jacket are recommended.

            

 

 

 

You will board your motor coach and depart from San Sebastián, the capital and harbor of the island. It is a pretty, picturesque village with about 7,000 inhabitants. This is where Columbus prepared his ships, took in water and food supplies and where La Asunción’s church stands. Columbus and his crew attended mass there before setting out on his way to America. You will have a 45-minute drive on the south road  to“Degollada Peraza”  and arrive at the viewpoint known as “Los Roques,” an impressive rock formation. There you will have a photo stop. Continue towards the Pajarito area, in  the direction of Chipude village and on to “El Cercado." You will arrive at El Cercado, known for its artisans, handicrafts mainly in the form of pottery, a familiar tradition inherited from one generation to another. Continue to La Laguna Grande, where you will enjoy a demonstration of the whistling language ”El Silbo” and have a taste of the local liquor “Gomeron.”

Santa Cruz de La Palma has always been a source of inspiration for many canarian artists, writers and musicians. The magnificent environment the city is surrounded by, along with its ancient monuments, astonishing façades and remarkable historical buildings, make the city an important site to admire. Its cobblestone streets lay like a heavenly carpet to welcome visitors and to guide them through. The tour will begin with a visit to Santa Cruz de La Palma and its remarkable sites such as the Spanish Square, El Salvador Church and the ancient Town Hall. After a relaxing visit in Santa Cruz, you will be transferred to a unique museum in Villa de Mazo, The Casa Roja Museum, where a classical concert will be offered exclusively to you by a professional musician. This will surely inspire your soul and will lead your heart and mind through many different emotions as you listen to the performance. An appetizer will also be served at the museum before you leave. You will enjoy a panoramic drive through Las Breñas back to the ship.

This panoramic introduction to La Palma is ideal for those who prefer to tour at a more relaxed pace. Embark on a scenic panoramic drive to the west of the island and through the upper region of the Aridane Valley.  The area is the highest point of the island and is also home to the charming town of El Paso. Enjoy a little free time to take some photos and admire the town’s beautiful surroundings.  You’ll leave El Paso and take a short drive to the delightful La Glorieta Square. The square is the work of local artist, Luis Morera, who was once a pupil of César Manrique. Here, you can enjoy a photo stop and view the unique and colorful mosaic floor, reminiscent of Manrique’s designs found in Lanzarote.  Afterwards, you’ll head to the southern tip of La Palma and on to Fuencaliente. There will be some time to relax during a refreshment stop at a local restaurant, before the return drive to the port.

 

Please note: This tour involves limited walking, however passengers must be able to negotiate steps on to and off the coach. The drive involves some hairpin bends and is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo. Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the lush scenery, as you travel along the mountain roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations to the small town of El Paso. A short stroll will take you to the unique Silk Museum, where you’ll see the 500-year-old tradition of silk weaving. This is the only place in Europe where the old processes have been preserved. During your visit you’ll have time to admire the stunning garments that have been crafted. Manolo Blahnik, the famous shoe designer, who is from the island, has created exquisite footwear using the local silk. Then it will be time to experience the beautifully restored 17th   century sugar estate, Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, the manor buildings display a varied collection of fine arts, furniture and porcelain, and boasts the largest collection of tapestries. With your guide, you’ll explore a selection of the public rooms, followed by tea and pastries overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, before heading back to Santa Cruz, enjoy a brief photo stop at La Glorieta Square to admire the stunning mosaics created by a local artist, Luis Morera.

Drive through vineyards and lava streams passing pine trees and small villages towards the deep south – the area where the volcanoes take charge. Arriving at Fuencaliente, a famous wine-producing region, you will visit the San Antonio volcano.  Here you may be able to walk over the crater border and stroll around the Visitor Centre.  A visit will be made to a typical bodega, where you will have the opportunity to sample some of the local red and white wines.  You may also wish to purchase the wines that you have sampled. A short drive will bring you to the pottery center of ‘El Molino’ in Mazo.  Located in an old windmill, this pottery is unique to the Benahorita people, which is to this day lovingly reproduced. There is a gift shop for you to purchase those all-important souvenirs.

 

Please note: The walk near the volcanoes is over rough, graveled ground and narrow, uneven paths with some inclines. Please follow your guide’s instructions and do not venture near the edge of the walking trail, as there are no handrails or barriers. There are some steep inclines and steps at El Molino Pottery.  This tour is not recommended for guests suffering from vertigo. The walking at the Volcano is optional.
